OUR TIMBER BUYER ROSTERS

One of the most important parts of selling timber is having each and every sawtimber tree measured! This 100% inventory allows you and buyers to know exactly what you are selling. Another very important part of selling timber is creating the greatest amount of competition possible for your timber. The more buyers who know about your timber sale, the greater the competition for it and therefore the higher price you’ll receive on the sealed-bid date.

Because the competition factor is so very important, we at Mott & Shay, PLLC, Consulting Foresters place a great deal of emphasis on keeping our Timber Buyer Rosters up-to-date with the names and addresses of as many timber buyers as possible. We advertise our client’s timber sales to all timber buyers within a 75-100 mile radius of the tract location. If there is something unique about the timber, we may extend the advertising even further.

We currently have 38 separate Timber Buyer Rosters for all areas which we work in Virginia and North Carolina. The average list has 65 timber buyers on it! That is 65 companies, small, medium and large who will be notified that your timber is for sale, and if you don’t think it’s important to let the small and midsize companies bid on your timber, we’ve go some news for you. Our bid results for the past 30 years show quite clearly that these small and midsize companies outbid the big ones more than 60% of the time! It’s important to let all buyers know about your timber sale.

Nearly every week our office is contacted by new timber companies who want to be on our buyer’s roster. Nearly every week we get changes of addresses for timber buyers. We constantly receive notices that one buyer has left one company and moved to another. This continuous change in timber buyer information means we have to constantly update our buyer rosters. This might drive our secretary a little crazy at times, but it is an effort on her part and ours that can mean thousands of more dollars for your timber. There is no such thing as too much competition for your timber. By keeping our Timber Buyer Rosters current and constantly communicating with each other, we at Mott & Shay, PLLC, Consulting Foresters do our best to create the most competition and highest prices for your timber. Don’t settle for less.
